Outdoors on the PCA campus - a deafening scream is heard! Everybody looks
around to see who it is ---- it is Lola! She is with Zoey, practicing
screaming for an audition for a play. Zoey is rating the screams, and Lola
asks her to scare her so she will scream even louder. A boy comes up with a
hockey stick, ready to help. They quickly explain, and introduce themselves.
He is Danny - and he doesn't really play hockey. He grabbed the stick from a
7th grade hockey player when he heard the scream, who arrives to retrieve his
stick. Danny likes the beautiful Zoey, and makes a date for a movie with her!
Logan shows up and asks Lola if he can borrow $10. She responds by practicing
a scream, which makes him retreat!

Quinn is in the hall of the dorm describing an experiment into her voice
recorder, she is cross breeding germs. She happens upon Mark and a girl, who
hug in front of her! Quinn is puzzled and suspicious. The other girl
leaves, and she confronts Mark. Mark acts just a bit suspicious. The girl is
Maria, who is in his English class. He tries to pass off the hug as casual.
Quinn buys it, though, and he tells her she doesn't need to get jealous. As Mark
gets his backpack, Quinn turns to see Maria still in the hall. She gets out
her wrist watch zapper and nails her in the butt! Just a stinging sensation,
though. Mark returns with the backpack, and he leaves with Quinn.

In the dorm room, Quinn is hard at work, looking at her mutant germ through the
microscope. Zoey and Lola are also there, and Quinn snaps at Lola when she
asks her what she is doing. Then Quinn apologizes, she is still unsettled by
seeing Mark hug another girl. Zoey and Lola ask for more information about
the hug. They are concerned Quinn might use her germ against the girl who
hugged Mark, but she would never do that. She is explaining what she is doing,
when her hand accidentally knocks over the vials with the germ. Green smoke
envelops the room and the girls, Quinn is concerned - she calls the biohazard
unit. What is worse, she had the number memorized, and the people on the
other end obviously know who she is!!! She describes what she was doing, and
they ask her to trip the alarm and evacuate the building, then close the door
to the room!! She tells them the biohazard unit wants them to stay in the
room. The other occupants of the building were allowed to evacuate, because
they hadn't breathed the air. If any of them left, though, they could infect
every student at PCA.

Three men from the biohazard unit are running across the PCA campus in full
airtight suits, carrying their gear. Back in the dorm room, Lola and Zoey are
pretty upset with Quinn! All of a sudden, Logan, Michael, and Chase burst
into the room. The girls wonder how they got in a dorm that was under lockdown,

but they sneaked in the back. When the girls explain why they are under lockdown,

the boys try to tactfully leave, but the biohazard team catches them and puts

them back in with the girls. One biohazard guy starts taking air samples, the
other is supposed to take 10cc of blood from each of the kids. The needle is
gigantic! They try to reassure the kids, but it WILL hurt. They all look
accusingly at Quinn ---

Later in the dorm room, everybody is extremely bored. Zoey is clacking two
balls together, Michael has origami, Logan is looking at himself in a mirror,
Quinn is at her computer, Chase is juggling, Lola reading her script. She
screams - and scares everybody! Mark signs online, and Quinn hushes everybody
up. But Mark has to sign off - he is going to meet Maria. He says he is
teaching her how to knit. Things definitely sound suspicious. Quinn is
certain she is going to lose him - but Zoey says she should trust him. She
tells Zoey it is Maria she doesn't trust. Logan has a good idea - have
someone follow them around and spy on them! Quinn mentions the "date" word,
and Zoey remembers her date with Danny. Chase is asking about Danny - when
Lola screams again, scaring everybody! Logan asks her to please quit
rehearsing, but this was no rehearsal. She is seeing a huge tarantula! Quinn
says it is just Herman - one of her pets! She picks up the tarantula, and
everybody freaks - she plays with it a moment.

Later, the kids are discussing their predicament. Chase turns on the PCA
news to get their minds off of it. But the top story is THEM - which doesn't
help. Chase is starting to get sick, he coughs. Everybody's thoughts go to
Quinn's germ. Lola is on the point of tears, as she tells Quinn she will be in
big trouble if the germ kills them. Michael is hungry. Quinn is on the phone
with Dustin. He is outside in the bushes looking at Mark and Maria, who are
apparently having a picnic. Dustin backs up and tumbles down a hill! Quinn
asks what happened, but she is concerned with Mark. Dustin tells her that
they walked off together, Quinn asks him to follow them!

Back at the dorm room, Zoey is having trouble finding Danny in the PCA phone
book. There are a lot of Dannys! Logan has yet another great idea - have
Dustin go to the movies, find Danny, and explain why Zoey isn't there. Quinn
protests, but after all, Dustin is Zoey's little brother. Quinn gets out her
wristwatch zapper and starts shooting at Zoey! Zoey comes and confiscates the
gadget! Chase is coughing worse - Logan is shuffling cards, then Lola screams
again - this time rehearsing. The cards fly everywhere, as everybody else
screams! Zoey takes advantage of the moment to call Dustin.

Dustin is now hiding in a trash can! Zoey tells him to go to the theater.
Quinn grabs the phone and asks Dustin what Mark and Maria are doing. Dustin
tells her that they are going into Sushi Rox. Now Quinn is really upset.
Zoey tells Dustin to go to the movies, Quinn grabs the phone again, and tells
him to do something to disrupt Mark and Maria.

In Sushi Rox, Mark and Maria are getting their meal. She wants to just look
at Mark, get a mental picture of him. Dustin jumps out and startles Mark, who
chokes on his food. Kazu comes to the rescue - date disrupted!!! Dustin runs
off to the theater.

Back at the dorm room, Michael is still hungry - he must have food. Quinn
tells him she has food, goes to a medicine cabinet on the wall - and she has
it well stocked with baby food!

The others, especially Logan, are repulsed - but Michael rushes to the cabinet
and starts downing bottle after bottle! Quinn and Zoey start arguing over who
is going to call Dustin. Lola practices her scream. Logan retreats to
admiring himself in the mirror. Chase is coughing - finally Logan has had
enough of the bedlam and tells everyone to stop! He calls them all freaks -
Lola counters that he is the one staring at himself in the mirror - and she
loses her voice! Everybody is happy about that - no more screams!

Outside the theater, Dustin finds Danny. Only it is the wrong Danny - he is
there on a date with Stacey. When Dustin tells him Zoey won't be there,
Stacey thinks Danifer is two-timing her, and runs off in tears. The right Danny
shows up, but didn't hear Dustin - he can't believe Zoey stood him up.

Back in the dorm room, everybody is asleep. The hazmat people come in and
wake them up - all but Chase, who really is sick. Lola has gotten her voice
back. The men tell them that the germ is harmless, and they are free to go.
They notice Chase is still asleep - and Zoey devises a prank!

Everybody poses like they are in a death mask. Zoey wakes Chase up by

throwing a pillow at him. Seeing everybody "dead," he freaks! First he goes
to Lola, then Michael, then Quinn - but she screams, and everybody wakes up.
They got him good.

Outside on the PCA campus. Quinn confronts Maria about Mark. She tells her
you don't go around stealing things, and illustrates by taking Maria's shoe.
But Maria tells Quinn that Mark hired her to paint a picture of him - so he
could give it to Quinn as a present. When Quinn sees the painting, her mood
changes, of course. Quinn apologizes and gives Maria back her shoe. She also
apologizes for the laser hit on the butt!

Elsewhere - Zoey is looking for Danny, who is not very happy with her. Zoey
finds out Dustin didn't talk to him. Zoey tells him what happened, but he
doesn't believe her. As he leaves, she shouts after him that it is true, her
roommate's a freak! But Quinn comes up with Mark's portrait and overhears.
Zoey has to think fast, and tells Quinn she was talking about Lola. Quinn
shows Zoey the picture - and she is underwhelmed. But Quinn doesn't pick up
on it, kisses the picture, and leaves. Danny overhears, and finally
understands. He makes another date with her.

Closing line - none

ANALYSIS:

The scream heard 50 miles! Well - 47.6 miles anyway. On days when the cast
is off, the crew is not. They go down to Pepperdine University and film
general scenes of the campus, and some extras to cut in with footage shot at
the sets in Santa Clarita, California. When you hear Lola scream, the footage
of students reacting is shot at Pepperdine. When you see Lola, however, she
is at the set in Santa Clarita, 50 miles away!!!

Creative camera angle - the scream coming out of Victoria. This is a risky
close-up for any actress, fortunately for Victoria, everything is perfect, she
must be a dentist's delight!

Logan coming up to the girls after Danny leaves is an excellent study in
contrasts - the new "hunk" they just met vs. the resident "hunk," who displays
one of his weaknesses.

GOOD science - the microbes in Quinn's microscope are accurate representations
of a single cell organism similar to an amoeba.

Oops! When Quinn knocks over the test tubes, the glass table top also breaks.
The Zoey 101 property department is now minus one table ----

You can see an original "Jeannie Bottle" from the 60's show "I Dream of
Jeannie" through the smoke in the girls' dorm room. I photographed this
beautiful piece a few days after this scene was filmed.

When Logan, Michael, and Chase burst into the girls' dorm room, they do a good
imitation of the three stooges signature "hello, hello, hello!"

Continuity - Michael is still afraid of needles.

Slight blooper - usually, blood samples are taken from the arm, and you would
have seen bandaids on all the kids in the next scene.

The hill Dustin tumbles down is the same hill that is behind the courtyard
set. Many of us parents and guests made good use of that hill to watch
comfortably as the first scene of "Zoey's Tutor" was filmed. It was
better than the tent, where temperatures soared to 120 degrees! The hill
was getting welcome breezes! When they changed the camera angle, we had to
move so they could have two kids walk on it in the background of the scene. It
looks steep with a lot of potential to hurt Paul - but it is actually a gentle
slope. And the grass is really nice and soft. I wondered if it was some
special variety grown just for show business - and lamented the contrast with
my lawn back home! Nevertheless - the show got a stunt double for Paul to
perform the stunt.

Continuity: we learned in season 1 that Quinn likes to eat baby food. She
still does!
