STARLET STYLE: ERIN SANDERS
I met
Erin Sanders of Nickelodeon’s “Big
Time Rush” at the grand opening of
Blowlux in Marina Del
Rey. Erin has the most perfect dewy
snow white-like skin and this almost
pinup girl quality.
Super
bubbly and outgoing her choice of
high-waisted hot pants with
stockings and a fully buttoned
blouse is
on trend but still reflects who she
is. Erin is daring, not afraid to
experiment, and isn’t as brand
conscious as you’d expect most
celebs to be. Read the Q&A below for
Erin’s style secrets and what
inspires her!

Style Q&A
Who: Erin
Sanders
Where you’ve seen her:
Nickelodeon’s Big Time Rush
What She’s Wearing:
Cooperative Top, American Apparel
Shorts, Franco Sarto Heels, Michael
Kors Clutch.
Q. Who are your style icons?
A. I can’t say I
have one style icon, to be honest.
I’m inspired by lots of things, from
choices people make
on the red carpet, pictures in
magazines, to people I see walking
around. You don’t have to be famous
to
make unique fashion choices.
Q. Fav places to shop?
A. I shop all
over. I like finding interesting
small stores with unusual things, or
things most people don’t
have. I also like more mainstream
stores like H&M, Free People or
Anthropologie. A lot of items they
carry have such great details. I
have this great, teal, sailor-style
sweater by Virginie Castaway that I
got
at Anthropologie. It has a sailor
collar that knots in the front and
hangs down in the back, and it has
these cute buttons holding down the
ends of the knot and on each bottom
corner of the hanging collar.
It’s one of those items in my closet
that feels special.
Q. Biggest wardrobe splurge?
A. My Jeffrey
Campbell Litas. I know that seems
like a pretty trendy item to have as
my biggest
splurge, but black ankle boots are
so classic, and I love platforms. I
always have, regardless of the
current interest in the trend. And
I’m only 5’2″, so the added height
is fun.
Q. An accessory or clothing item you can’t live without?
A. A great pair
of dark wash skinny jeans. They’re
comfortable, they go with
everything, they can
be dressed up or down, and I think
they make everything look chic and
stylish.
Q. Any style advice you’d like to share?
A. I think it’s
so important to pay less attention
to trends and more attention to what
is most flattering
on your individual body.
One may be criticized for not being
“bold” enough in their fashion, but
classic pieces are classic for a
reason. If you have amazing legs
but aren’t so crazy about your
middle,
just play up what you love and don’t
feel bad about the rest.
Q. Fav designer?
A. Elie Saab
makes absolutely stunning dresses.
The silhouettes are so flattering
and feminine. They
remain so classy yet sexy, with
beautiful, sheer and often
glittering fabric. His dresses have
so many
elements I love, such as the
juxtaposition of long sleeves with a
thigh-high slit, or a very deep
v-neck.
He plays with texture and uses deep,
rich colors and romantic pastels. Zac
Posen also makes such
beautiful gowns—also very sexy and
feminine. His designs are modern
but often evoke a very old-
Hollywood feel. Anything with a
nipped in waist makes me happy. My
waist is one of my favorite
features.
Q. Best fashion steal?
A. My friends
joke that I’m the queen of good
deals. I’m always hunting for
amazing things for as
little money as possible. I
recently got an amazing pair of
glitter and satin red heels for $26,
reduced
from $90. They’re so beautiful and
have a very 1940s feel. A lot of
the red carpet dresses I wear
are inexpensive, cool things I find
that have serious potential, but
aren’t necessarily the finished
product I end up wearing. So I get
them tailored. They become custom,
one-of-a-kind, cost less,
and I always get so many
compliments.
Q. What are you currently working on? Any new projects in the pipeline?
A. I’m currently
on a really fun show on Nickelodeon
called Big Time Rush. I also filmed
an
independent movie this year called
Model Minority (http://www.
really moving, eye-opening story
about an Asian-American girl who
gets tired of the ideals that
everyone, from her family to
society, hold her up to. She
rebels, and starts going down a
really
destructive path… I’m one of the
“bad girls” who plays a part in
corrupting her, which is pretty
funny, as it’s so unlike my real
personality.
