Chase and Michael improvise a fight over Chase's bushy hair - and it delays Mr. Bender just long enough for the girls to make it to class.

Their first period class, taught by Mr. Bender, is multimedia.  He introduces the class to a scooter riding friend, who has an assignment for the class: do a television commercial for the new scooter, which is called a "Jet-X."  The class is organized into groups of 3, with the winning team members each receiving a Jet-X for their efforts!

Zoey, Nicole, and Dana are in a team together.  So are Chase, Michael, and Logan.  Zoey establishes a healthy distance between the teams - not wishing to give away their best ideas.  Chase and Michael are not happy being teamed with Logan, who then shows up and promises to take Zoey to "make out" on his Jet-X when he wins.  Zoey is less than enthusiastic.

The boys have their difficulties.  Logan has taken over as director, and Logan's father - a big movie producer - has loaned Logan a truck full of equipment and lots of helpers to film the commercial.  Chase and Michael are doing nothing but hauling around heavy and expensive equipment for Logan, who is ordering everybody around with a bull horn.  When the girls see this, they immediately go to Mr. Bender and cry foul.  It can't be fair to them that Logan has this advantage.  Mr. Bender assures them that all that matters is what goes on the commercial, not the equipment used to make it.  Logan, however, shows up with a surprise - a big Hollywood star for his commercial!  He twists Mr. Bender's words for his own advantage.

From the beginning, the girls have trouble with their commercial.  The script is lame and sounds contrived, they can't agree on anything, and Quinn can't figure out how to work the camera - it is different from hers.  Quinn records their argument, where they each express very different ideas about what the Jet-X represents to them.  The girls eventually part company - each vowing to make their own commercial.

The girls spy on Logan, and the commercial he is shooting looks great.  This is in sharp contrast to their independent efforts - Dana wants to convey speed, but Quinn's fan coats her with dirt.  Nicole runs into the camera.  Zoey puts so many helium balloons on a Jet-X that it almost floats away.

Logan, in the mean time, has added yet another element to his commercial - a sexy model that his star rides up and kisses.  All seems lost for the girls, who gather back in their room that night - and reconcile.  Each knows their own commercial is terrible, and they vow to stay up all night hopefully to find enough material in all the footage for a commercial.

Early the next morning, they have failed.  Class is in an hour; their commercial couldn't be more terrible.  Nicole and Dana take off to get a shower and get ready for class - and Logan is gloating – while Zoey remembers Quinn's accidental footage the first day.  She stays at the editor.

In class, Logan shows his commercial - which is impressive.  But Zoey isn't there with Nicole and Dana.  She arrives just in time with a DVD - and tells the girls just to watch.  It turns out that each girl arguing what the Jet-X means to them is exactly what the maker was looking for - and the girls win!

The next day the girls wake up with only 9 minutes until class.  But this time it isn't a problem - they can make it to class on their own Jet-X's!  Logan is late and asks Zoey for a ride - but she refuses!

Closing line: Zoey to Chase "You just spit on me."  When they were discussing their commercials, Chase's raspberry went in the wrong direction.

This is one of my favorites. There are some interesting issues, however:

(1) What are seventh graders doing taking multimedia?  I sure wish I had that type of class in junior high!  It would have been much more interesting than what I did take.

(2) Quinn not being able to figure out a video camera?  Well, it was crucial to the plot.

(3) The Jet-X is advertised in Logan's commercial as being 95 hp.  That is almost as much as some small cars.  I would think there would be licensing issues with the girls.

(4) Quinn's fan does not have near enough power to put dirt all over Dana.  I can only imagine what the film wizards on the Zoey set did to Kristen that day!  Her expression, though, makes it into the opening credits for season 1.

(5) Nicole would have broken the camera when it fell over.

(6) When the girls spy on the boys, they use a pair of binoculars.  This leads to one of the most pervasive mistakes in Hollywood - showing a horizontal figure 8 for the view through binoculars.  The way you actually use them, you overlap the image from each eye and it makes a circle.  Try it!  I admit, this is nit-picky, but every TV show and movie gets it wrong.
