This week I went to
Center Stage LA for an acting class. We did a lot of improv, and worked
on some scenes.
We also did an exercise that I really enjoyed: two
people go up on stage, and sit next to each other. Then, one of them
says something, and the other person says, “why???” Then the first
person answers, and the second person, once again, says “why???” This
keeps going on and on until the teacher stops you, and all that the
second person can say is, “why???” Then they switch places.
Only, this
time, the teacher wanted us to think of something really meaningful to
talk about; something in our personal lives, something that we really
wanted to work on.
And you’re not
allowed to stop talking. So, even if you don’t think that there’s
anything else to say, you somehow come up with something. And then you
end up saying things that you didn’t even know you had in you, or things
that you didn’t know you felt, or couldn’t put into words. It was
almost like group therapy, for everybody.
